When does it start?
Expected launch: 2 November 2026. The Queensland government page still described the EPAC Assurance Scheme as not operating when checked on 1 November. Verify availability before booking.
Who is affected?
Bikes meeting EN 15194 and carrying its compliance label do not need scheme verification. Eligible older bikes without that label may qualify, subject to requirements including 250W maximum continuous power and 25km/h assisted speed. Illegal high-powered or modified devices are excluded.
What should I check?
Find the model, purchase date, specifications and label. Approved verifiers may charge up to A$70 for inspection and labelling. The transition ends on 28 February 2027; a compliance label is required for public riding from 1 March.
Device approval is separate from rider age, licence and supervision exemptions. Read both official links. This policy summary does not certify any individual bike.
